چکیده

This study evaluates the input-processing deŽcit/single system and the grammar-speciŽc deŽcit/dual system models to account for past tense formation in impaired and normal language development. We investigated regular and irregular past tense formation of 60 real and novel regular and irregular verbs in ‘‘Grammatical (G)-SLI’’ children (aged 9:3 to 12:10) and morphologicalor vocabulary-matched younger control children. The G-SLI children and language ability (LA) controls showed quantitatively and qualitatively different patterns of performance. The LA controls, but not the

A challenge to current models of past tense inflection: the impact of phonotactics.

Is past tense production better modelled by a Single Mechanism or a Words and Rules model? We present data concerning a phenomenon that has not been considered by either model-regular past tense verbs with contrasting phonotactics. One set of verbs contains clusters at the inflected verb end that also occur in monomorphemic words ('monomorphemically legal clusters', MLC) whereas the other has c...

The morpho-phonological interface in Specific Language Impairment

This thesis investigates the nature of the interface between two components of language morphology and phonology in children with Grammatical-Specific Language Impairment (G-SLi), compared to those with typically-developing language. I focus principally on the impact of phonological complexity on past tense inflection, but I also investigate other areas of morphology. More specifically, I show ...

This study focuses on the resul...
